
During the February Emergent Theological Conversation at Yale, we spoke about the Church and culture. I found this topic to be inspirational and insightful. It was stated that the Church
emerges out of a certain culture and stays in that culture. This means that we should embrace our culture, not reject or work against our culture. The line between the Church and culture is drawn too boldly; we must embrace what is going on around us as we follow Christ. We are to follow Christ's example of using culture to speak to the people and now use culture to speak to people about Christ.
I have been reading Shane Hipps' book (see
March 4th); he speaks about the effects of technology in Christianity. Technology has impacted and changed Christianity. The question should be, does God work through culture or technology? Why does God
allow technology or culture to be if He does not work through it? Does this help us or hinder us from interpreting or understanding God? We must
embrace technology and culture in order for others to make peace with God and...
